Central Market’s Preston Royal store is a remodel and new construction of the previous structure that was destroyed by the 2019 Tornado in North Dallas.
Project Narrative
It was the morning of October 21, 2019. The North Dallas neighborhood, Preston Oaks, was badly damaged by a tornado that tore through many residents’ homes the night before. Joeris was brought in to facilitate the rebuild of the tornado-damaged Central Market, the grocery store anchor of Preston Oaks Shopping center. From the moment we took on the project, as we surveyed the property the morning after the storm, we could hear shell-shocked residents anticipating the store would reopen quickly. The pressure was on to bring back what once was, to be a part of this community’s healing and return to normalcy.
After the storm, many stores chose not to return to Preston Oak’s Shopping Center. For Central Market, the initial plan was to have the store up and running as quickly as possible. The initial goal was Thanksgiving 2020.
In October of 2020, the plan changed. Central Market opted to instead update the store, expand the footprint, and extended the date the store would reopen to May 2021. In total, the store was closed for 21 months.
Joeris returned Central Market Preston Royal back to the residents in even better condition than it was before the tornado touched down.
