Lagos Elementary School is a 100,450 SF, two-story facility. Inside, grade levels are organized into pod communities that are organized around a centralized “Discovery Zone,” composed of the library, gym and cafeteria. The open plan Discovery Zone serves as the heart of the school and re-envisions traditional common spaces into an interactive, collaborative zone for learning. Additionally, digital displays show students how the building’s sustainable features and systems are performing, integrating sustainability into the students’ day to day educational experience.
A large group instruction space is incorporated into the design to allow for students from around the District and community members to learn about the sustainable aspects of the school. The school was designed to be net-zero ready and incorporates a number of green features.
