Meals on Wheels San Antonio embarked on a transformative project aimed at enhancing their mission to provide nutritious meals to seniors and at-risk adults in the San Antonio area. The project began in response to the urgent need for increased meal delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous facility lacked crucial features such as adequate storage space, a well-equipped kitchen, and efficient loading and delivery docks. The vision for the new facility became a reality through the collaboration of a dedicated design and construction team. The project features a grand porte-cochere at the entrance, leading to a welcoming lobby. Inside, 50% of the space is dedicated to an optimized production kitchen with ample storage, while 25% is allocated for administration and training areas. Additionally, 25% of the facility is devoted to an expanded Grace Place, providing respite for Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers. The building boasts a steel structure, PVC roof with solar panels, and an Insulated Metal Panel exterior, ensuring durability and energy efficiency. With its vibrant interiors, versatile flooring, LED lighting, and a granite walking trail surrounding the property, this project creates a holistic and inviting environment for staff, volunteers, and those in need of their services.
