Northside ISD Warren High School Construction Careers Academy

K-12 | San Antonio

  • Project Scope 41,000 SF Construction Careers Academy
  • Completion Date August 2010
  • Owner Northside Independent School District
  • Architect Garza Bomberger & Associates

Recognizing the need to offer its students concentrated, alternative learning opportunities; the Northside ISD approved the construction of a Construction Careers Academy as a district magnet school. The Academy was built on the campus of the existing Warren High School.

The new facility includes 4 large shop, or vocational trade areas. These include:

  • Building Trades Shop
  • Electrical Trades Shop
  • HVAC Shop
  • Pipe Fitting Shop

In addition, the magnet school contains a core curriculum classroom, AutoCAD Workroom and a separate administration area.

The project provided a unique opportunity for students and faculty since they were able to utilize the construction of their own campus as part of the curriculum for their first year in operation. Students toured the construction site on a regular basis and the construction management team often spoke to the students about the various trades and processes being undertaken as well as the key elements of the project management process.
